Devil’s Matchstick (Cladonia floerkeana) or British Soldiers (Cladonia cristatella) an amazing crimson carpet, of what look like small flower heads, but must be fruiting bodies? on short 10mm woody stems, covering a few square metres, in the centre of The Downs today!

Looking at it again it has to be ‘Cladonia floerkeana’ or C. ‘cristatella’.
